Directions to SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CENTER (SFC):
From the south use SR 41 to the intersection of SR 41 and SR 301 splits stay on left lane on SR 301 and turn left at the very first street onto Bro. Geenen Way. First building on your left (1900).

From the north take SR 301 south pass Ringling Blvd., pass Oak Street, next street turn right onto Bro. Geenen Way. First building on your left (1900).

From the north on SR 41 to Osprey Avenue and Mound Street turn left on Osprey Ave and first right onto Bro. Geenen Way last building on your right before going onto SR 301.


Directions to Argosy University:
From Senior Friendship Center: Leaving the SFC turn left onto Bro. Geenen Way to Osprey Ave turn right to Ringling Blvd. turn left onto SR 301 to 17th Street. turn right travel about 3.5 miles to N. Honore Avenue. Argosy University is located on your right.

Travel time between both locations is less than 15 minutes.

Directions to Gulf COAST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION:
Coming north or south on I-75 exit 193 on to Jacaranda Blvd turn right onto E. Venice Ave. to SR 41 (business) - South Tamiami Trail turn left to 601 North Tamiami Trail.

VENICE LIBRARY :
Coming from I-75 exit 193 onto Jacaranda Blvd. turn right onto Venice Ave. to SR 41 (business) North Tamiami Trail turn left to 300 Nokomis Ave.

WHO ARE WE?
Pierian Spring Academy (PSA) is a high-quality, low-cost, college level academic continuing education program for persons of all ages but especially retirees and semi-retirees, regardless of educational background. We have only one requirement: a willingness to learn and to enjoy the intellectual refreshment of unique, stimulating content and discussions. Winter residents are welcome.

WHERE ARE WE?
PSA courses are held in three locations: Senior Friendship Center, 1900 Brother Geenen Way and Argosy University, 5250 17th Street in Sarasota and Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, 601 Tamiami Trail South in Venice. Click here for directions.

WHEN DO WE MEET?
Fall Lecture Series begins October 21 through November 10 at the Venice Public Library in Venice and October 23 through December 16 at the Selby Library in Sarasota. The Lectures are scheduled 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Fall Session 2008
Begins October 20 and ends November 14.

Tuition is $50 per course

Winter Session 2009
Begins January 12 and ends April 2.
Tuition rates vary according to length of class:

HOW MUCH?
6 weeks is $65 per course, 8 weeks is $90, 10 weeks is $110 and 12 weeks is $130.
There are no membership fees or annual dues.

Our Mission: Pierian Spring Academy is dedicated to offering academic quality courses taught by highly qualified former academicians and/or recognized experts to adults in Sarasota, Florida. It is through this pool of talented instructors that we are able to offer a wide range of learning opportunities in the topical areas of earth, ideas, technology, human body/mind, people, history, local history, government, theatre, writing, music, art, architecture, film, and literature.


Fall 2009 and winter/spring 2010 sessions will offer nearly unlimited learning opportunities:

* Three venues: Argosy University, Senior Friendship Center, and Plymouth Harbor
* Fall lectures free and open to the public are scheduled for Selby Library
* Fall lectures will be offered on consecutive Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. begining October 20th
* Eighty plus courses varying in length (4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks)
* Over 50 per cent of the courses are brand new courses
* Time span between classes has been increased permitting more travel time between east and west campuses
* Tuition rates will remained at the same level as last year
* Scholarship aid available for qualified people
* No membership or parking fees

All these new efforts support our mission to connect people with knowledgeable background and experience together with people who seek challenging and stimulating learning opportunities. Pierian Spring Academy news flash !!

June 2009

Classes for 2009-2010 are being prepared for publication. We have an interesting array of 80 plus courses that will be offered in the fall (October 26-November 20) and in the winter/spring (January 11-April 2).

In addition to courses, our annual Fall Lecture Series is scheduled for Tuesdays, 2:00 p.m. at the Selby Library in downtown Sarasota beginning October 20 and concluding December 15.

We are happy to announce the appointment of Debbie Cowles to our new Senior Administrator position. She brings to her new assignment years of working at higher education organinzations in Ohio and is eminently qualified to provide adminstrative support to PSA participants. She can be contacted at 941.716.2471.

We will be returning to Argosy University and Senior Friendship Center for our classes. In addition, we are presently exploring course offerings at Plymouth Harbor. More details to follow.
